2009= Year of Expectation

As the clock prepares to strike 12am and brings in the new year, so many thoughts are running through my head. Lord, what is this year gonna be like? Then I think to myself, what will 2009 be about for me? I know I'm staying away from the cliche resolutions. It seems I always lose sight of what I set out to do. So I'm simply going to live by a theme, A Year Of Expectancy. With all the seeds sown and tears shed in the past t2 years, I'm simply declaring a year of jubilee.

While God is a God of grace, he is also a God of reward. There is no way that the righteous shall be forsaken and I am certainly no exception. In living my life accordingly to his will, I know there will be great reward. Regardless of what the current situations may look like, I know the best is yet to come.

So many people often find themselves in a place where they are tired of doing 'the right thing' and they give up. The moment they give is when their breakthrough is around the corner. Its like running a marathon and stopping just short of the finish line.

In making my theme 'Expectation' I am changing the tides. By declaring victory over every trial in advance, I've already won. No matter what the circumstance, God will make me the victor. We have to know that God has something great in store for us and begin to live in positive expectation.

Whether its finding a parking space, getting a raise, triumphing over sicknesses, a family member being saved or winning a million dollars, I expect breakthrough for 2009 in all that I do. And I am believing the same for you. You need only touch and agree that this is your year and it shall be done. Be blessed and prepare for what God is about to do for you.

Economize, Don't Compromise!

Now, every Fly girl has the same chronic disorder that I seem to have, shopaholicism! (I know it's not a Since the clock struck midnight on the day after Christmas, I have been on a ravenous hunt to find the best deals at just about any store, but mainly Targets. Now, I don't know about you, but Target does something for ya girl. I love the feel of it, the workers (all expect this hoodrat cashier in Morrow..), the quality of product and most of all, the way they slash prices when they are rushing the next set of products in after Christmas.
As of Monday, all of their Christmas items have been marked down to 75% off ! This is ridiculous because most of the Christmas stuff can be used year round. The gorgeous wrapping paper can be used as ..... you ready? WALL PAPER! Yes, I have about 17 rolls of this gorgeous print and I am going to totally transform my dining room and guest bathroom! Many of the delicate ornaments can be placed in decorative shadow boxes and even decorative bowls.
When going into an after Christmas sale, you have to be a visionary. You have to be able to see something that not many others will not see. What works for you, may not work for everyone. There is a thrill I get when seeing a dull room transform into something out of Better Homes & Gardens or off of TV.
I'm sitting here with a pile of receipts almost feeling guilty about the money I spent, but I'm like, hey, it's gonna be worth it! When I move into my new townhouse, I will spend the entire time praising God and DECORATING! I'm so excited I cant even sleep at night... No, really. When you have creative juices flowing like I do, its hard to keep still..

Don't make someone a priority when you're always their option. Now this is a topic that is often revisited. Time and time again people that I know and even myself always drop what they are doing for other people. We are talking about someone calling you to do something at the last minute and you clear your entire schedule. Then that person turns around and cancels on you. With no regard to how it may make you feel or how you may be affected.

In this new year, make yourself a priority. Other than God, there is simply no one else more important. If you set out to do something for yourself, do it. Don't cheat yourself in this new year. You deserve to be happy and not constantly let down. Try it today.

Well, today is the one year anniversary to the day, December 30th, that my grandmother has passed. I am going to take this day to reflect on her life and also reflect on the life that I am living...

If you love something.....

"If you love something, let it go. If it comes back to you, its yours forever. If it dosent, then it was never meant to be"


Often times in our lives, we have people that we deem important and ultimately love to pieces. But then we find ourselves in a place where we may love them more than we should or than they deserve. In that case, we must let them go in order to keep growing.

The letting go is the most painful, but the most necessary.We can continue to love and support this person, but we must have the discipline to not let this person have the best of us. Like in the bible when Ruth was working in the field, you must keep busy doing what God has for you. Now, when love returns, it may not be the same person. God may send a greater version of this person. One that can give you all that you deserve and require.
Now, from personal experience, I swear this is the hardest thing to do. To wait. One of the greatest spiritual fruits is patience. It is said to be a virtue for this very reason, it's not always easy to do, but has the greatest reward. The moment we step out of God's will and decide not to go with his "waiting" plan, we allow ourselves to come from under his covering of grace. We have to be ever so careful with this. While we think we may deserve a certain relationship with a certain person, God may be saving us from something or even ourselves. The wonderful thing about God, is even when we go astray, he forgives us and lets us get back on track.
In relationships, we have to trust him wth your whole heart. Sometimes you have step outside of something to see what it really looks like or even what it really felt like. Like the saying says, "you can't see the forest for the trees". When you're in something, you can't see it. God will always grant you the right discernment in His timing. When the revelation, be prepared. That's where growth comes in.
I can remember loving someone and realizing that he simply was not the one for me. It hurt me to the core, but I had to trust God. With all my heart, I wanted God to make him what I wanted, but it just wasn't working. It was in this moment that I knew God was really working a miracle in me. You couldn't have told me that wasn't my husband without me losing it. In hindsight, that relationship was pivotal to my growth and the woman I was to become. I love him to this day and don't hesitate telling him. We are dating other people, and I often wonder "what if", but it's too late, because I prayed that God's will would be done.
That's it. I let him go, and when he came back, he wasn't necessarily what I needed. I wanted it to work, but in order for me to be the person that God destined me to be, I knew that it would take a difference person. So in my pursuit, I am putting on glasses that project God's image and will, and not my own. My plan hasn't worked so far, so obviously I have to go with the winning team, GOD's!
So Fly Girls, this is a point of realization that God is the one and only true authority on what is right for our lives and who needs to be in it. Let Go and Let God. It's all we can. Watch and see....

Never Stop Believing.....

I sent this email out to my family the morning that Obama won and how I felt. The power of believing is beyond measure when you truly put your heart and soul into it. Read it and let me know what you think:

My people,

Last night was monumental and truly awe inspiring. Words cannot express the moment that we are in right now. While capturing this extreme moment in history, go to God with your heart's desires. This is the time to go boldly before the throne and let Him know what you want.

The same way we believed the impossible dream of having an African American president, you can believe for God to move on your behalf in a miraculous way.

The same way you pressed through these so called difficult times to continue to trust God. I say "so called" because, perception is reality. When I decided to praise God any how with gas prices at almost $5 a gallon, I was just grateful to have money to put in the tank. I just held on to the belief that God would continue to provide, and then, 2 weeks later, gas went down 3 WHOLE DOLLARS! That small lesson of faith and patience has taught me so much. Even when we think we can't make it, that small still voice says, YES WE CAN! And we did. Not only did we elect our next leader, we showed God that we have faith the size of a mustard seed. Even when all odds were against us, we believed otherwise.

In this atmosphere of change, you have the opportunity to dream without measure. This is the time to write your vision and make it plain. Anyone who knows me, knows that I love to dream in color. As I watched the tides of our time change last night, I took the opportunity to create a new and improved dream book. I wrote down my every heart's desire. You have to give God something to work with and you also need to have a constant reminder of what it is that you are believing God for. I am sharing this with you because this atmosphere is ripe for supplication. This is PRIME TIME for harvest!

So remember this moment and capture these feelings, and let them propel them into a better tomorrow and even your destiny. Share love with all those your encounter and never stop believing! All things are possible. All.....

There are so many scriptures that would be befitting for this moment, but the one that truly stands out right now is Romans 10:11 "For the Scripture says, WHOEVER BELIEVES IN HIM WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED." ( New American Standard Version)

Lovers and Friends?

Well, all of us fly girls find ourselves with fly guys at one point or another in our lives. Not always often in dating, but almost always often in friendships. I have several girlfriends that have guy BFFs that always seem so perfect as a friend, that they begin to toy with the possibility of a relationship with them. They get along with all of the homies, the family loves them, they make the best jokes, they know how to have the best fun at events. But why aren't they the ideal mate? Is it because you know too much about them or have you totally blocked them out because you are so consumed with all of your other suitors? Is it that they are so opposite of your usual guy? Do they not look like all the others? Is it too close for comfort?

I ponder these questions because I have a few close guy friends and I always seem to have all of the answers to their relationships woes But are one of them my answer? I just thought about it today, why have me and "so-n-so" not dated? Maybe it's not the right timing, maybe I know waaaaay too much of their personal business, maybe its just not meant for us to be together. Then I think maybe what I'm looking for is right under my nose. It's always so crazy when weighing all of your options. You start looking back over pictures, thinking about moments that you've shared and realized that there may have been a little something extra there. You start getting a little more jealous when he talks about his girl or latest conquer. You get a little more possessive when he goes out with out you. You start wanting to know more about what he's doing for the evening. You realize that you might have started liking him more than you thought. Or, maybe not. lol.

One thing is for certain, you don't want to lose your best friend or compromise what you've taken so long to build. The worst thing in the world is to lose that best friend that you've loved for so long. But then again, you don't want to miss out on who may be the only person who understands you 110% and loves you just the same.

As you can see, I have some things to think about going into the new year. And you just might too. Its always interesting when its close to home. lol. Your BFF starts looking real cute in this recession of men. That's one that God is definitely gonna have to take control of!

Double Portion in 09'

With the new year fastly approaching, everyone is into making lists of what they plan to change and what they want for their lives that they didn't have in 08'. In this new year, I want God to bless me not only with what I desire, but in a double portion. In Isaiah 61:7, it says, "God promises that instead of shame and trouble, God will double the inheritance of His people and they'll be filled with everlasting joy."

God promises double for our trouble. I looked back at 2007 and 2008 and I have just about had it with trials and tribulations. It seems the harder I fought, the tougher it got. Now, don't get me wrong, it wasn't unbearable, because that's simply not God's will. It was just rather trying. I know that because of my diligence and endurance, God is going to honor me.

That goes for you as well. No matter what your situation looks like, God can give you a complete turn around in 24 hours. That is the amazing thing about God, He's always in control and knows what's best for us. Whether we want it or not, God ultimately knows what is best for us. When we surrender to His will, all things fall in place.

I'm an advit Joel Osteen and Kenneth Copeland supporter and it seems that their messages are always on time. The last 2 messages stood out the most to me though. Osteen talked about God's promise to you: double for your trouble, or as he likes to call it, TWICE the LIFE! A "double portion" of God's goodness, a "double portion" of His favor and wisdom on your life. That was such a blessing to me because I often forget all the promises that God has spoken over my life. That happens when you are in the midst of the storm, you have trouble seeing your way out. You have to stay focused and know that something is in the works for your good. The destiny that God has promised is still yours for the having, you just have to hold on and believe.

Kenneth Copeland's message was about the 24-hour turn around with God. He talked about how we sometimes get problem-centered instead of Word of God centered. As a people we let ourselves be so surrounded with the loud voice of the world that the vision of our victory is pushed out of sight. This happens to us all, but we have to catch ourselves in the midst of it all and know that God is not a God that will make us ashamed. We can be victorious even in the situation where we are sure to be defeated. The God in us is bigger than any problem that we can ever face.

All in all, we have to begin to put our past behind us and expect something great in the new year. I know you've said this mantra time and time again, but this time, say it with your actions. If you want that dream house, that ideal mate, a beautiful child or even a career change, trust God for that. Dream big and don't settle. All things are possible with God. Even when it looks like that dream may not come into fruition, keep believing. Don't stop pushing. That means you're at the cusp of a breakthrough.

I hope this has blessed you as much as it has blessed me. That is how God operates. As He (God) ministers through you, He ministers to you! I feel much more empowered! This is our year! Now, let's wipe these tears up and prepare for a breakout year, because it's coming! I CAN FEEL IT!

Perfection vs Completion

Okay, so 2009 is going to be interesting. Approaching the other side of my 20's, I feel like it's time to make some serious moves in the "love" department. I have a few prospects, I think, but it's just not happening how it does in the movies. No loud bang, no soft playing music, no cupid arrows being shot. None of that.

It seems as though I always meet someone, but find the most minuscule thing that I simply can't be bothered with. Is it that I'm just too picky, or that I am simply not allowing myself to settle? Do I not deserve all that I desire,especially when I have lived my life sacrificing what feels good to do what's right? Of course I do. Some of the finest wine takes time to get better. It's more valuble. More cherished. Maybe God is working on a sho' nuff good man for me, like a fine bottle of He haaaaaaaaaaaas to be!! I have to believe that something great is in store. That's all that I can hold on to.

I was talking to some of my guy friends about why so many great women find themselves successful everywhere but in love. And I simply didn't have some magical answer because its based on a case by case basis. We can't live a life based on generalizations when God deals with us one on one. Yeah, people say there are no more good men/women, but truth to the matter is, you only need 1 right? Right.

If you are constantly working on who you are and are destined to be, he/she will come. Now, I'm not saying give up on love or finding who he/she is. But don't let those thoughts consume you. You are wasting valuable time that you can be making significant contributions into the atmosphere. Perfect a hobby that you have neglected. Catch up on movies or TV shows you've missed. Go out of your way to help other people. Anything that will keep you from having a pity party. Believe me, I'm the world's greatest host for those. I swear! But I had to make a conscious decision to get over myself and keep believing that God has some great rewards in store.

Don't worry, be happy! I know that's easier said than done, but it will get easier when you believe it will. Stop following others' timelines and follow your own. Everything happens in God's perfect timing...

Right place, right time.....

Now, being the Fly Girl that I am, I was all over the city in search of the next Target with the best after Christmas sales. In choosing this particular Target, I was apprehensive, but I decided to venture to it anyway. What I experienced at this Target was not in the store, but in the parking lot.

On my way back to my car, I saw these 2 young ladies and a toddler standing outside of an older model Camry. Now anyone who knows me knows that I have a hard time minding my business, so I asked what was going on. When I looked at the young ladies, I knew they were in a bit of a bind and needed help. That's when I realized that they had locked their keys in the car. My heart immediately reached out for them. But in the same thought, I vividly remembered my mom having a slim jim in the car. Now, I'm certainly not a mechanic, or a fix it girl, but that day, God was able to use me as a vessel. I tried and tried and could not get that door open. So I said a prayer out loud to declare that God would grant me a miracle and I tried it one last time. To my surprise, the door opened immediately.

Now, this may not seem like a lot to me or you, but this made this young lady's day. She was scrolling through her phone trying to find help, she went through her wallet and had little or no money, all she had was faith. And that is what life is all about. God wants us to know that He is all we need. Not money, not fame, not things, but Him!

We need to be available to God to be used as vessels. Now, even in my pursuit of things, God was still with me. Granting me favor as I walked in and out of stores and even allowing me to be a blessing to others. This is a critical occurrence when being a believer. God must be able to use us in order to bless others and let them know that He is real.

I was so touched by this occurrence that it stayed with me all day. My heart went out to these 2 young girls. Just as God had me to be a vessel, He will do the same in many instances to help me and you. There will be someone sitting in a board room meeting speaking highly of your name, your application will float to the top, you will get the last of great deal in the store, your child will get a scholarship, a family member will remember you when they get their riches. And why? Not because you are any greater than anyone else, but because you are blessed and highly favored. God can work a miracle on your behalf today.

Keep living your life doing what God has instructed you to do and there is nothing that you cannot have.

Who can buy a better gift for you, than you? NOBODY?! Lol.... That's why they have the day after Christmas shopping. I have been up since 4 am trying to grab all the good deals that I wanted BEFORE Christmas. I ventured to 5 Targets, 2 Walmarts, and 2 Malls. Over 12 hours, I'm officially done!!!
You will see the fruits of my labor very,very soon. My home decor is going to be ridiculous! Watch out Martha Stewart and Sandra Lee!

Merry Christmas......

Well, Christmas was a complete and total success!!!! Full of laughter, inside jokes, candid photos, and lots of memories. What I love about Christmas with my family is the ability to make a joke out of anything. We forgot to buy propane for the fried turkey, so we just put that sucker in the oven the old fashioned way and broiled it. It turned out to be the best dish on the menu. Kinda like when life gives you lemon, just make a killing on selling lemonade. Well, that's what stood out the most for me this holiday. You may not have everything you want, but God has given you all that you need. More than anything, God has people in your life to help you get through it all. So this holiday season, remember to cherish those you love and always cherish the moments you share with them!

Gifts already opened....

So, my family tradition is to open gifts up at midnight on Christmas because we are always up feeding the homeless on Christmas day. And we are already done! Lol. This is the most exciting part of the day. Everyone in sitting in their Christmas work clothes, flour in our hair, bleach on our shirts, no make up, just our plain ol' selves. We sit around in our perspectives seats in the living room and act like little kids waiting on what each other bought. It is soooooo much fun! Of course I had nothing specific on my list that I wanted, because I've pretty much bought it all through out the year! And I'm sure they couldn't fit an Infiniti Truck and a REAL MAN in gift box. .. lol.. So I settled for a new limited edition Louie, a crazy J.Simpson bag, money , a cordless glue gun, and of course MORE JEWELRY~ !

I couldn't be happier! God has made a way yet again. When you believe God for the smallest things is when your heart is filled with the most expectation. Things end up being just great. God's way of saying he's got your back and is still in control. I just love it... and I just love Christmas.

Paula Deen's Red Velvet Receipe

* You know I added more sugar and

2 cups sugar
1/2 pound (2 sticks) butter, at room temperature
2 eggs
2 tablespoons cocoa powder
2 ounces red food coloring
2 1/2 cups cake flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup buttermilk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 tablespoon vinegar
1 (8-ounce) package cream cheese
1 stick butter, softened
1 cup melted marshmallows
1 (1-pound) box confectioners' sugar
1 cup shredded coconut
1 cup chopped pecans

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
In a mixing bowl, cream the sugar and butter, beat until light and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time and mix well after each addition. Mix cocoa and food coloring together and then add to sugar mixture; mix well. Sift together flour and salt. Add flour mixture to the creamed mixture alternately with buttermilk. Blend in vanilla. In a small bowl, combine baking soda and vinegar and add to mixture. Pour batter into 3 (8-inch) round greased and floured pans. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Remove from heat and cool completely before frosting.

Blend cream cheese and butter together in a mixing bowl. Add marshmallows and sugar and blend. Fold in coconut and nuts. Spread between layers and on top and sides of cooled cake.

Toll House Chocolate Chip Cookies Recipe

2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup (2 sticks) butter, softened
3/4 cup granulated sugar
3/4 cup packed brown sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 large eggs
2 cups (12-oz. pkg.) NESTLÉ® TOLL HOUSE® Semi-Sweet Chocolate Morsels
1 cup chopped nuts

Directions:PREHEAT oven to 375° F.COMBINE flour, baking soda and salt in small bowl. Beat butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar and vanilla extract in large mixer bowl until creamy. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Gradually beat in flour mixture. Stir in morsels and nuts. Drop by rounded tablespoon onto ungreased baking sheets. BAKE for 9 to 11 minutes or until golden brown. Cool on baking sheets for 2 minutes; remove to wire racks to cool completely.

What to get a girl who has everything?

Ok, is it just me or do you get tired of the cop out of people (men in general), that say they have no idea what to buy you? Yea, I have hundreds of shoes. Yea, I have handbags gallore. Yea, yea, yea. Guess what? None of that matters if I have to always buy them for myself.

The best gift in the world is the one you don't expect and often the one that cost the least amount of money. Calm down. Not some cheap thoughtless gift, but a gift that comes from the heart and everytime you look at it, you think of that person. In this economy, that's probably the best option anyway. We are really in a day and age that money has lost its value. What matters most is the people that you love and how they feel about you.

Gone are the days where lavish gifts should be anticipated or even demanded. We "fly girls" should stop worrying about price tags and appreciate the effort, love, and sacrafice that went into the gift giving. When you turn on the TV, there is always someone or an entire family hurting. We should all be so grateful to experience happiness on this Chritsmas Day. Whether the happiness is big or small, we are still so fortunate.

Ok, my hallmark moment is over (for now), but think about all the things that you are blessed with this Christmas and all of those who may not.

~ Flyness and blessings....

All of this for a few hours.....

Well, it's that time again. Time flies when you're living. I guess. So, I have been slaving alllllllllllllllllllllll day making chocolate chip cookies, red velvet & pound cakes, 2 types of mac n cheese, seasoned the turkey, and prepared the ham. And to think, it will all be over in a few hours. Crazy huh?

Maybe not. When I look back over the years at all of my Christmases, the preparation is where all the learning has taken place. So many life lessons take place in the kitchen. Patience, endurance, adventure, learning the value of paying attention, passing of family traditions, and the list goes on. It seems every time I am in the kitchen, I learn something new. It's one thing to watch the Food Network all day, but to actually be doing it myself, is an entire different story.

As I prepare for yet another holiday gathering, I am eternally grateful for the experience. The family laughter and tears, the suspense of gifts that I didn't expect, the crazy family member that does something random, watching people enjoy my carefully prepared dishes, and most importantly, seeing another Christmas take off with a bang!

So this holiday, be grateful for the little things. Whether it be swollen feet from hours of preparation, or simply a pound cake that comes out of the baking dish without sticking! lol. Enjoy this day, enjoy your family, and enjoy being you.

To be "thick" or just plain ol' fat....?

To be "thick" or just plain ol' fat....? That is the question.

Ok, so the new year is approaching and of course everyone is going to be on this super workout plan, supposedly. But my question is, how thin is thin and how thick is thick? I ask this because when you look at Janet and Oprah, its obviously a universal struggle.

I was watching this new show hosted by a panel of doctors, and they analyzed 3 types of diets. They did the cayenne pepper diet, the low-carb diet, and the lifestyle diet. 3 women followed a detailed diet plan and their goal was to lose at least 5 pounds. Long story short, the lifestyle diet was the most successful. You have to do what works for you, not following a fad that works for everyone else.

I've chosen to talk about this for a moment because it seems that all of us need to focus on keeping our mind and bodies healthy. Eating the "perfect" food is fine, but if your lifestyle isn't in line with it, then its in vain. We have to make conscious efforts to eat more small meals. So instead of starving ourselves and "saving" it for a good lunch or dinner, we should carry small healthy snacks and eat smaller portions. I've tried it and it really does work.

My goal is not to be some unrealistic size, but healthy. I want to be around to see my children's children. As African American women, we certainly have to focus on keeping our hearts healthy, which comes from proper diet and exercise. With the weight of the world on our shoulders, we have to be prepared for just about anything.

So today, don't set some unrealistic diet goal that doesn't fit your lifestyle or abilities, just take little steps toward a healthier lifestyle. Take the stairs instead of the elevator, get a kids meal instead of a value meal, walk around the neighborhood to visit a friend instead of driving by, walk the entire mall even if you're running into 1 store. Just watch the difference it may make ...

The beginning....

Welcome to the "Fly" World....

I guess I should define exactly what this whole "fly" thing is about. When I first delved into the whole online networking world, I wanted a title that would truly embodied all that I was and allowed me to be unique. So I came up with "Her Royal Flyess". "Her"- celebrates the woman that God has uniquely created me to be. "Royal"- knowing that I've been set aside for a specific purpose-like royalty. "Flyness"-celebrating my unique ability to be fabulous effortlessly.

To me, "fly" can be deemed as an acronym that can speak volumes to us all. F-orever, L-oving, Y-ou. That is the key to everything in life. Not to be conceited, but to love the "you" that God has created you to be. From your flaws to your fabulousity, you're the only person that can be you. Embrace it and work the heaven out of it....
